A Surprise Guest Attends London Fashion Week
London Fashion Week’s Tuesday afternoon show featured some eye-catching looks from Richard Quinn’s latest collection, but what mostly caught our attention wasn’t on the catwalk at all. It’s actually a member of the audience, and it was her very first visit to LFW. The one and only Queen Elizabeth II was spotted on the front row of the Richard Quinn fashion show. A cushion was placed on her seat to make her experience as royal as possible.
In the end of the prestigious show, the monarch handed an award to the fashion designer as recognition of the British fashion industry’s reputation for “outstanding craftsmanship”.
Her Majesty was in an ice-blue Angela Kelly tweed dress and jacket paired with a black handbag, black gloves and sensible shoes.
Did we forget to mention that Vogue’s editor in chief, Anna Wintour, sat next to the Queen of England? Unfortunately, the magazine mogul has been criticized for making a major faux-pas while speaking to Her Royal Highness: she showed poor etiquette by keeping her trademark black sunglasses on. Twitter users have since thrown major shade at Wintour. Some said her behavior was “rude” and “disrespectful”, others called her “ridiculous”.
But the real question is why does she wear sunglasses indoors? Back in 2009, Anna Wintour said the following statement in an interview on 60 Minutes: “They are seriously useful. I can sit in a show and if I am bored out of my mind, nobody will notice… At this point, they have become, really, armor”. Well, that was very… straight-forward.
