When we think about Avril Lavigne, the first thing that pops in our head is this goth girl who sings about breaking up with her boyfriend. But she’s all grown up now, and she now has another message to deliver to her fans: the message of God.

This might come out as a surprise to you, but Avril Lavigne has recently develop a big interest in her religion, so much that she released an album recently, Head Above Water, that’s all about Christianity, and it has even reached number 5 on the Christian Billboard chart.

The Canadian singer/songwriter has been fighting against Lyme disease for the past five years which made her put her career on hold. And during this long struggle, she found comfort in the hands of God, and then she decided to write this peculiar album.

The song “Head Above Water” compares her illness to drowning, because that’s what it felt like according to the celebrity. “I thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die. My mom lay with me in bed and held me. I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water. In that moment, the song writing of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on.”

Don’t forget to check out her latest album, you won’t regret it!
