Celebrities You Probably Didn’t Know Are Vegans
In case you didn’t know, a vegan is a person who doesn’t eat meat or any other foods produced by animals such as eggs. People who choose this path are often very concerned with the well-being of earth, and they most certainly love animals and don’t want to do them harm. Here are some celebrities who became vegans.
Alicia Silverstone, better known as Cher from the iconic 90s movie Clueless, has been a vegan since 1998. "I realized that I was the problem … I was an animal lover who was eating animals" said the actress that year. Silverstone has even written a book about her vegan experience called “The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet”.
Tobey Maguire has always hated meat and poultry. He became a vegetarian in 1992 and officially called himself a vegan in 2004. But if he has to gain weight for a movie role, the star would still eat eggs and dairy. However, according to Maguire, leather and animal-related things are banned from his house because their smell makes him sick.
A few years back, Ellen Degeneres and her wife both became vegans because of their love for animals. The talk show host even has a section on The Ellen DeGeneres Show website called “Going Vegan with Ellen”. However, she’s recently announced that she’s eating fish again. You can imagine her vegan fans’ reaction!
The Manchester by the Sea actor has been vegan for several years. He has teamed up on several campaigns for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). “When people ask me why I don’t eat meat or any other animal products, I say, ‘because they are unhealthy, and they are the product of a violent and inhumane industry’.”
Lea Michele is also a fan of the gluten-free vegan diet. The Scream Queens star occasionally consumes meat and dairy. She’s always been an animal’s rights supporter, but she doesn’t necessarily have to be a full-time vegan! She herself revealed that when she has cravings, she would eat a slice of pizza or even a gourmet burger.
