Facts You Didn’t Know About Queen Elizabeth

April 26, 2017

In honor of Queen Elizabeth’s 91st birthday, we’ve decided to expose some things you probably didn’t know about the British monarch.

She was not supposed to become queen
Nobody expected Elizabeth to become queen. She was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York who later became King and Queen. Her uncle Edward, Prince of Wales and her father, Duke of York were crowned kings, and then it was Elizabeth’s turn. King Edward’s abdication made things easier and quicker for the now Queen of England.
She was an actress in several plays
When she was just a teenager, Queen Elizabeth performed alongside her younger sister in many plays during World War II. One of her most iconic roles was Prince Florizel in Cinderella in 1941, she was only 15 at the time!
She’s a dog lover
The monarch has owned more than 30 corgis in total. The first one, Susan, was given to her for her 18th birthday in 1944. She loves dogs so much that it is said she brought Susan to her honeymoon in Broadlands, Hampshire, and Birkhall. After Susan’s death, she took care of many of her descendants. In fact, her great-great grandmother, Queen Victoria, shared her love for dogs; she owned many German dachshunds and Scottish collies during her reign.
