Is Nancy Ajram Homophobic?
Lots of artists in the Middle East are promoting tolerance, whether it’s of races, social statuses, political views and sexual orientations. However, there’s one Lebanese singer who isn’t as tolerant as she appears to be. To our big surprise, rumor has it that Nancy Ajram is homophobic, and that the star asked her manager to ban rainbow flags from her concert in Sweden this week. And for that, she faced endless criticism on social media.
What happened was that Nancy's concert turned out to be in the same period as the Swedish 'Pride Week’, on August 17, so she knew in advance that there will be some fans who would want to show off their rainbow flags during the concert.
But there’s a little bit of a contradiction here… a few months ago, Ajram made an appearance at ‘The Voice Kids’ wearing a t-shirt with rainbow colors that reminded us of the LGBTQ+ flag.
Plus, here is what Nancy tweeted to say as a reply to all those haters:
“Concerning the media hype following my concert in Sweden & all the accusations resulting thereof, I would like to clarify that my management and myself have nothing to do with the pride flags & that the stage pride decoration removal decision was taken by the organizer himself.” She continues, “I would like to clarify once and for all that I respect everyone's choices without any discrimination. I had never put myself in a position to judge or issue prejudgments especially that personal life is private and no one has the right to interfere in. We just have to respect it”. She ended her message with the following, “I am sorry that this issue took such big attention, because it affected some of my close friends too. The purpose of such hype was to put me in confrontation with a certain group of people. I Love and Respect everyone. That's all I have to say. Thank you”.
