Remembering Celebrities We Lost in 2016
We will be welcoming year 2017 this weekend, and the festivities have already started. However, we thought it would be nice to pay tribute to some of the legendary celebrities that have sadly passed away this year.
Carrie Fisher (1956-2016)
Carrie Fisher, aka Princess Leia from Star Wars, has died at the age of 60 on December 27. The former actress had suffered from heart failure in California.
George Michael (1963-2016)
The English singer, songwriter, and record producer who began his career through Wham! has passed away at 53 on Christmas day, December 25th in the UK due to suspected heart failure.
Peter Vaughan (1923-2016)
The brilliant British actor known for his role in “Game of Thrones” as well as “Straw Dogs” and “The Life and Death of Peter Sellers”, has died on December 6. He was 93.
Melhem Barakat (1945-2016)
Lebanese singer-songwriter Melhem Barakat, or as us Lebanese call him, Abou Majd, has held his last breath on October 28 in Beirut at the age of 71. Barakat was known for his songs “Habibi Enta”, “Aala Babi Waaef Amarein” and many more.
Gene Wilder (1933-2016)
Gene Wilder has passed at the age of 83 on August 29 in Connecticut due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. The legendary comedian had been suffering from it for three years.
Muhammad Ali (1942-2016)
The boxing champion and activist of the 20th century passed away on June 3 after a 32 year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He died in Arizona at the age of 74.
The world was in shock after the news of Prince’s sudden death. The Purple Rain star has died from a fentanyl overdose at his recording studio in Minnesota on April 21. He was 57.
Glenn Frey (1948-2016)
The Eagles’ co-founder and guitarist Glenn Frey has died on January 18 from “complications from Rheumatoid Arthritis, Acute Ulcerative Colitis and Pneumonia” according to the band’s official website. He was 67 years old.
David Bowie (1947-2016)
David Bowie, who was renowned for his innovative talent for five decades, has left this earth on January 10 in Manhattan, New York. The 69 year old rock icon died after a long battle against liver cancer.
